Abstract

Objective: To find the association of restless leg syndrome and sleep disturbance among pregnant females of Lahore. Methodology: It was analytical cross-sectional study which was completed in the duration of 6 months of. A sample of 195 pregnant females (between age of 18 to 45 in any trimester) was collected using non-probability convenient sampling technique from different hospitals of Lahore. International Restless Leg Syndrome Study Group (IRLSSG) criteria and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) for sleep disturbance was used. SPSS v20 was used for statistical analysis to find the frequency distribution and association between these two variables. Results: Restless leg syndrome was present in 108 respondents. Among these females there were 107 women who had poor sleep quality with the mean value for PSQI (Pittsburgh sleep quality index) 18. Association between restless leg syndrome and quality of sleep i.e. χ2(1,N=195)=10.11, p<.05 remained significant. Conclusion: Restless leg syndrome is frequent among pregnant females and is linked to poor quality of sleep or sleep disturbance.
