Effects of Different Parenting Styles on Behavioral Aggression in Youth

Abstract

Objective: To find the effects of parenting styles on aggressive behavior of youth population. Methodology: It was analytical associational study that was completed in 6 months from April 2017 to November 2017. A sample of 138 participants was taken through convenient sampling. Behavioral Anger Response Questionnaire and parenting style and dimension questionnaire were used to collect the data from youth and parents respectively. Pearson correlation was applied to find the effects of parenting styles on aggressive behavior of youth population. Results: The mean score of Authoritative, Authoritarian and Permissive parenting style was 3.16±0.76, 3.18±0.72, and 2.64±0.98 respectively and mean score of behavioral aggression was 12.1±1.63. Value of Pearson correlation for Authoritative (0.106), Authoritarian (0.146) and Permissive (-0.078) parenting style show that there is very week relationship between both variables. Conclusions: Parenting styles and aggressive behavior among youth are not significantly co-related.
