Prevalence of Obesity in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis

Objective: To determine the prevalence of obesity in patients with knee osteoarthritis of Lahore Pakistan. Methodology: One Hundred and seventy four (174) Patients were inspected randomly according to the pre-tested Numeric Pain Rating Scale, KHOA (Knee Hip Osteoarthritis) Algorithm for screening knee osteoarthritis and BMI (Quetelet’s index) for assessment of obesity questionnaire. Results: Out of 174 patients of Knee pain 78(44.83%) patients were obese and 18(10.34%) obese patients had Knee Osteoarthritis (OA) and 60(34.48%) obese patients had no Knee Osteoarthritis. Results showed obesity contributed little towards the knee Osteoarthritis. Moreover Results show that only 18(10.34%) obese patients contributed to knee osteoarthritis while 60(34.48%) patients that are obese does not have any knee pathology. Conclusion: It is concluded from this research that obesity is not the leading cause of Knee Osteoarthritis (OA). Prevention is better than treatment, so make an aim of daily exercise; exercise keeps joints and muscles healthy. Also take proper diet.
