Abstract

Objective: To find out the practice of personal hygiene among the school children living in a Semi urban area of Lahore.

Methodology: Two hundred and thirty seven students (89 boys and 148 girls) were inspected randomly according to pre-tested check list.

Results: Mean hygiene score was 7.66 for boys and 7.09 for girls, with a standard deviation of 1.79 1.59 respectively. Majority (94%) of the  students were either in satisfactory or good hygienic status category. Boys and girls have equal proportion in this category. Boys have a better  mean hygiene score than girls, but in ‘satisfactory category’, girls have a better achievement, 72% as compare to 61% boys. Conclusion: A good  proportion (94% of the students (Girls and Boys) having satisfactory or good hygiene status, reflects that parents, are conscious about the hygiene of their children. School teams in both the schools are also playing their role in maintaining the healthy practices among the students.
